ARE YOU CONTRIBUTING TO YOUR CHILD’S FEAR OF THE DENTIST?
Courtenay, BC – August 29, 2011

Is your dental anxiety setting a bad example for your children?

Dr. Teri Norfolk Dip. D.H., D.M.D., an award winning dentist with a special interest in working with children, has recently joined the team at Driftwood Dental in Courtenay, BC. As a clinical instructor of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Norfolk is an advocate for early dental education.

“It’s never too early to help your children get used to the dentist. It’s understandable that there might be anxiety associated with a visit but that stress can be greatly reduced by regular friendly visits.”

Children as young as age 1 or as soon as the first teeth appear can go to the dentist for simple check ups. Setting good examples like being calm at the dentist, having fun brushing and regular hygiene checkups may prevent your dental anxiety from reaching your children.

“I take my time as though they were my own children and surprisingly, even the most anxious parents who come into the operatory begin to relax as well.”

Dr. Teri Norfolk graduated from the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Dentistry in 1992. Dr. Norfolk continues to lecture for UBC Continuing Education “Local Anaesthetic for Dental Hygienists” and has recently joined the team at Driftwood Dental in Courtenay, BC.
