Our dental clinic has provided dentistry to the community of Courtenay, British Columbia for 25 years. If you’re new to the Comox Valley and are looking for a dentist, we would love to see your smile.

We'll treat you like family, and we’re a dedicated group that truly cares about you. We look forward to providing you with personalized dental care. As a general dental practice, we also offer all forms of sedation for dentistry: General Anesthesia, IV sedation, oral and nitrous oxide (laughing gas). Depending on your level of nervousness or the complexity of your treatment, sedation may be the answer to help you get through your dental appointments comfortably.

Our 'all under one roof' team approach to dentistry includes general dentists Dr. John McGaw and Dr. Robert Borland; board-certified specialist Dr. Alex Chen (Pediatric Dentist); and our team of registered hygienists and certified dental assistants.

Our Dentists

  • Alex Chen, DMD

    Pediatric Dentist

    Dr. Chen graduated as a General Dentist at UBC’s Faculty of Dentistry in 2011 and completed his Pediatric Dentistry Residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, NJ in 2014.

    Dr. Chen was twice honoured on the Dean’s List while at UBC and had also published and presented several topics in general and pediatric dentistry.

    He currently volunteers for the VIU Dental Hygiene Program and had volunteered for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. In his spare time, Dr. Chen enjoys spending time with his wife and newborn son (2017).

    As a first-time father, Dr. Chen understands the sensitivity of parenthood and new experiences from the child's - and their parents' - point of view.

  • Dr. Eman Moradi, DDS, MSc, FRCDC

    Endodontist

    Dr. Eman Moradi received his DDS degree in 1996 and Master of Science degree in Endodontics in 2002. He became a Clinical and Didactic Assistant Professor at Melli Dental School in Iran. After immigrating to Canada, he earned his designation again as an endodontist in July 2017.

    He is a Fellow of the Royal College of the Dentists of Canada (FRCDC), a member of the College of the Dental Surgeons of British Columbia (CDSBC), a member of the British Columbia Dental Association (BCDA), a member of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), and the Canadian Academy of Endodontics (CAE). Currently he teaches at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

    Dr. Moradi is empathetic to everyone who enters his office. He continuously strives for the best and brings everyone with him. His passion for the field is contagious, as his work atmosphere reflects.

  • John McGaw, EMT-P, BSc, DDS

    General Dentist

    Dr. John McGaw has been providing general dentistry to the Courtenay and Comox Valley community since he graduated from the University of Alberta - Faculty of Dentistry in 1992.

    He's been practicing sedation dentistry since 1994 and in 1997 received certification from the University of Toronto to provide multiple drug IV sedation.

    Dr. McGaw is also an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor and Clinical Instructor in IV Sedation at the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and for the University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry – Dental Ed Sedation Program.

    He's also certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and throughout university, Dr. McGaw practiced as a Level III Registered Emergency Paramedic for the City of Edmonton (NAIT 1980).

    Utilizing dental technology, Dr. McGaw strives to identify and treat problems with minimal invasion and maximum comfort.

  • Robert Borland, BSc, DMD

    General Dentist

    Dr. Borland graduated in 2000 from the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Dentistry.

    Dr. Borland broadens his general dental studies through continuing education courses and study clubs and is certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
